With summer's end, things are rolling again

by Rocky Morrison

The AIDS Service Connection of Columbus is a hands-on service group dedicated to empowering people living with HIV/AIDS and their loved ones. Since its inception in 1989, ASC has experienced steady growth in the variety of services it offers, the number of volunteers providing direct services and the number of individuals and families receiving assistance.

For the past six years ASC's purpose has remained simple and firm: to enable persons with HIV/ AIDS to maintain control and dignity in their lives. ASC is the only AIDS ser-

various parties will converge at the Statehouse atrium downtown for a single dessert, coffee, and dancing extravaganza. Diversity-and the answer to the epidemic-will be alive at the Finale. If you are interested in becoming a host or hostess for this special evening or if you would like simply to make a donation, please contact event chair Gretchen Kelly at 614-761-9982. Entry to the Finale for those who have not attended a dinner party will be $10 at the door.

vice organization in Columbus with two permanent locations for access to services. People interested in offering their time, resources or financial support, or those in need of assistance are invited to contact ASC at 614-291-2300 or 614-221-7979.

After the long (and hot) summer, things are rolling again and we have several important events coming up soon. On October 7 we will sponsor our first annual “Dining with Friends for Friends" fundraiser. This is a national event which was started by the Triad Health Project in North Carolina in 1990, and has since spread to many other states.

Designed to bring people together in a non-threatening way, this event consists of different dinner parties held simultaneously from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Afterwards all the

Our second upcoming event is ASC's annual Day Without Art variety show. This year's show will begin at 9:00 pm on Friday, December 1, in order to allow those wish to attend the candlelight vigil downtown in observance of World AIDS Day to do so. The show will be at the Third Avenue Performance Space and tickets will be $10 at the door. The lineup for the show already promises to be entertaining. Singers from the Columbus Light Opera will be joining us, as well as the internationally-known singer and dancer Stepp Stewart, straight from a year on the road with the Broadway touring company of Jelly's Last Jam. Stepp has also performed in the Vienna cast of Cats and with the European tour of Bubblin' Brown Sugar. You will not want to miss this incredible performer!

A Manager's Guide To Sexual Orientation In The Workplace

Friday, October 13, 1995 at 7:30pm

What does sexual orientation have to do with business effectiveness? And what possible gain is there for a business to reach out and embrace people of differing sexual orientations?

The answer, according to Bob Powers, co-author of A Manager's Guide To Sexual Orientation in the Workplace (Routledge; $25.00), is that from a purely business point of view, there are big bucks to be gained.

And from a human side, it is only fair that all people are treated equally in the workplace and today, that simply isn't the case.

Bob Powers spent fourteen years with AT&T, where he headed the corporation's training and employee development efforts. He currently is President of Bob Powers & Associates, Inc. and has worked on enhancing life in the workplace with clients that include British Airways, CITICORP, General Motors, and the Internal Revenue Service

Powers has proven, practical advice for everyone who has ever lived the difficult and painful experience of being ostracized in the workplace, for simply being who they are.
